Life's A Beach
We just got back from a week at Sauble Beach. It was fun this year because Joely was big enough to enjoy going out and jumping around in the waves, and Lucy enjoyed scooting around on the beach like a little sea turtle. Lucy, being the little scamp that she is, found that destroying sand castles is good fun. This is all fine and good when I build them, but I had to intercept my little sea turtle several times as she scooted towards the labour of others. Of course, the castle-builders had no idea what was about to hit them, and thought Lucy was cute - if only they knew she was bent on destruction! Here is a picture of Joely warming up in Tan's arms, and another of Lucy the Destroyer with Aunty Jo:

Joely "Tiger" Bye got a chance to work on her golf game [To any Nike executives reading this, please note the swoosh on Joely's shorts. As you will see later in this blog, we're cool with child labour. Please contact me via email so I can provide you with our bank details for the endorsement cheques.]:

The whole crew celebrated a good round at the clubhouse:

A few days later, as a special treat the kids stayed up until it was dark and we let off fireworks on the beach. The evening kicked off with a little ice cream and night swinging:

Next, the kids tried to not to burn their faces off while Dad played with the camera exposure settings (the first pic is Aiden, the second pic is Joely):

A trip to Sauble wouldn't be complete without a stop at Sauble Amusements. First off was the ever-popular bouncy castle:

Joely was even up for the big slide, which I must admit scared the crap out of me when I went on it as a little guy. I was impressed with her bravery - let me tell you, you're cookin' pretty good by the time you get to the bottom! The first pic shows Joely and I on the first drop, the second pic shows Joely and Tan at terminal velocity!

The day was capped off with some furious racing action. NASCAR, eat your heart out!
Now, all this cottage living, mini-golf, amusement riding, and beach frolicking doesn't come for free. To show the kids that they had to earn their way and help pay for this whole experience, I made them wash my car. I wasn't satisfied with the job they did, so I gave them half of what I originally promised. In addition to learning there's no such thing as a free lunch, they also need to learn to deal with disappointment. It was a nice way to end their vacation. [I'm kidding people!]
