A Busy Sunday

We kicked things off today with another round of Grasshopper Soccer. Kicked things off...HAR HAR!

On the way there, Lucy made a friend in a young lad named George. You can see the close bond in this photo:

After this touching moment, it was time to get down to business. All the little Grasshoppers clustered around Grasshopper Blake, who is the Head Grasshopper. That's him in the blue and yellow cap and black shorts (Joely is right in front of him as per usual) in the photo below.

Joely loves Grasshopper Blake. For the rest of the day, out of the blue she would say "can we talk about Grasshopper Blake?", and then we would have to recount everything that G.B. said and did earlier. If there were G.B. posters, we would have them on our walls. I must admit, he's great with the kids, and I think he's pretty cool too.

Next, we went over to a park that is next to a playgroup facility that Tan and the girls go to once a week. Tan had described the park/playground as a big boat, but that couldn't prepare me for this:

In one way, it's exactly what Tan said it was - a big boat. However, it's Real Big. For a sense of perspective, that's Joely scrambling up the slide that comes out of the front. Stretching back from the front is a series of steps, ladders, and paths all built into the boat. It's one of the coolest parks I've ever seen - and it's free!

To top it off, it has a killer view. The park is set high overlooking the swan river, looking out towards the ocean one way, and to the city the other way. Here's a shot I took while pushing Joely on the swing:

If you walk out past the swings, this is what you see - as the crow flies, the river heads out to the Indian Ocean (and if it's a crow on steroids, eventually to South Africa):

If you turn around, you look over the river the other way towards the Perth Central Business District:

I haven't been to all the parks in the world, but I think this one has to rank pretty high in terms of views for mom and dad and fun for the kiddies.
